Modern Bar & Bathroom Renovation in Pittsburgh

Basement Bar & Bathroom Remodel

This Pittsburgh, PA remodel included a contemporary home bar and an updated bathroom. For the bar, I paired light natural wood cabinetry with dark quartz countertops, a textured geometric glass tile backsplash, full-width floating shelves, and dual built-in beverage refrigerators. In the bathroom, I carried the modern look through with straight-stacked beige tile, satin nickel fixtures, and a handheld showerhead.

A Contemporary Home Bar Designed for Entertaining

My clients wanted a bar that felt warm and inviting while still having a clean, contemporary look. I built the design around light, natural wood cabinetry from Legacy Crafted, which brings warmth and texture into the room. Against that, I used dark LG Viatera Nocturne quartz countertops, and the contrast between the two gives the bar a refined, grounded feel.

The cabinetry does plenty of practical work too. It offers generous storage while keeping the lines clean, so the bar stays uncluttered even when it's fully stocked.

Geometric Glass Tile Backsplash

The textured geometric glass tile backsplash is one of my favorite features in this space. I chose a Soho Studio tile in soft white and taupe tones, which work beautifully with the warm wood finishes and the floating shelves above. The pattern catches the light and adds gentle movement to the wall without overpowering the rest of the design.

Floating Shelves

Two floating shelves run the full width of the backsplash. They give my clients a place to display ceramics and greenery and keep bar essentials within easy reach. I matched the shelves to the light wood tone of the lower cabinetry so the upper and lower portions of the bar feel connected, and the open shelving keeps the whole wall feeling light and airy.

Lighting and Accents

Black pendant lights with warm gold interiors hang on either side of the shelving and cast a soft glow over the bar. Their matte finish connects with the black countertops, the table seating, and the understated hardware, so the palette stays consistent throughout the room. I also added recessed lighting across the space to keep the bar bright and functional whenever my clients are entertaining.

Built-In Beverage Storage

For convenience, I integrated dual beverage refrigerators from Don's Appliances directly into the cabinetry. Building them in keeps the design clean and cohesive, and it gives my clients dedicated storage for drinks right where they need it most.

The Bathroom

I carried the same modern look into the bathroom. The walls feature 4x16 beige tile set in a straight stack, which gives the room a clean, orderly pattern. Satin nickel fixtures add a soft finish, and a handheld showerhead makes everyday use more convenient.

Above the marble-topped vanity, I hung a large black-framed mirror with rounded edges. Its shape is a nod to mid-century design, and the black frame gives the vanity wall a strong focal point against the lighter tile. Crisp white vanity lights mounted above the mirror shine downward over the counter, providing clear, even light for getting ready each day.

Wall space in this bathroom allowed for just one towel bar, so I made the most of it by adding two robe hooks as well. The hooks take up very little room and give my clients extra places to hang robes and towels right where they need them
